teamLab Architects计划与中洲集团在深圳共同创造 “Personalized City”（个性化城市）在总建筑面积3,000,000平方米的区域里用数字科技与艺术创立一个保持公众性的同时也可被个性化的空间。项目计划于2021年公开。
teamLab Architects and Shenzhen Centralcon Group plan to develop a “Personalized City” with total floor area of 3,000,000 square meter in Shenzhen, China. Through digital art the project will allow the public space to be personalized while maintaining its publicness. The project will open in 2021.

City Concept “Personalized City”
Coexistence of public and personal in the city. By sharing public space using digital technology, personalize it and turn it into art which includes the existence of the individual, then once again re-establish it as public.
In the city, public and personal used to be completely separated. However, digital technology has made it easier to share things of individuals. Car-sharing services such as Uber and Didi, and home-sharing services such as Airbnb and Tujia are prominent examples of such phenomenon. By being shared by a time slot, personal belongings such as cars or homes started to play public roles like public taxies and hotels in cities.
On the other hand, by sharing the public presence in cities such as fountains and plazas via digital technology, they become personalized public things, creating a city where the public and personal ambiguously coexist. Furthermore, digital art can turn personalized public things as well as the individual inside into art, creating an art space within the city that changes according to the presence of people. This dissolves the feeling of discomfort among others, allowing more people to experience
the beauty of art, hence turning the personalized things public again.

Continuous space, symbolic forms and the individual. From one three-dimensional object with personal interactive experience, an installation space with a sense of unity, and where no boundaries exists among people. A giant three-dimensional object with continuity from sparse to dense without boundaries.
“水晶森林广场” (计划中) 由光的点集合形成的水晶柱群体组成，我们称这些水晶柱为“水晶树”。水晶柱群体所发出的光，整体形成一个三维物体。由于三维物体是由光构成的，因此可以通过数字化来操控，使它产生互动。通过接近每一棵水晶树，或通过智能手机发出信号，我们可以改变光构成的三维物体。
This installation is made of a group of Crystal Trees that are composed of points of light, and the set of points of light by a group of Crystal Trees creates one solid object. Because the three-dimensional object is made of light, it functions interactively and we can control it digitally. By approaching each Crystal Tree, or by using a smartphone, we can change the light object.
Each Crystal Tree is a single three-dimensional object that each individual can have personal interactive experience with. As a whole, it becomes an installation space that creates a sense of unity with no boundary with others, and this dense group of trees becomes a gigantic three-dimensional object. With mathematical continuity, they transform seamlessly. This work transforms in perpetuity due to the presence of people in the space.

Crystal Forest Square
“水晶森林广场” 是由数码装置水晶森林所形成广场，我们称每根由覆盖着半反射镜的光点组成的柱子为“水晶树”。“水晶树”根据数学规则 （根据二次函数法从中间到周边的排列由密集变得稀疏）模拟蜂巢结构排列。
This installation is made of a group of Crystal Trees that are composed of points of light, and the set of points of light by a group of Crystal Trees creates one solid object. Crystal Tree is pillar made up of a set of light points covered with translucent mirrors. They are arranged according to mathematical rules (density decreases along quadratic curve from center to edge of the square), on the basis of a honeycomb structure.
Landscape: Continuous unified nature and public space. Integration of nature and public space through digital art.
The center point of real trees and the center point of the Crystal Trees are located in different places on the site. Real trees have multiple center points and they appear continuous and overlapping with the Crystal Tree by sharing connecting points. The closer to the center, the denser the forest, where people cannot move freely. Conversely, the farther away from the center the more sparse the trees, which allows people to move freely. Contradictory spaces are continuous and boundaries are ambiguous. Light emitted by the entire Crystal Tree group exceeds the boundary of contradictory spaces, which are composed of continuous trees with varying density, and unifies the contradictory spaces.

Architecture: Personalized ambiguous form. Change initiating from the individual, expansion of the architectural image by digital art which crosses outside and inside of the architecture, and thereby create ambiguous architectural boundaries and personalization of architecture.
In the center, a space with glass ceiling and walls is arranged. No Crystal Tree exists in the center; it is hollow. In addition, due to architectural rationality, Crystal Trees near the center are arranged like a grid. The contact points of “honeycomb arrangement” and “grid arrangement” are arranged at average value of Crystal Trees nearby, so that “honeycomb arrangement” and “grid arrangement” are continuous. (a smooth transition point) The density of the Crystal Trees is changed constantly, Crystal Trees at the center are independent from those positioned far from the center. When approaching the center, the pillars position becomes more dense, which forms a new space. The center pillar is symbolic because of its high density.

In cross-sectional planning, the height of each Crystal Tree is determined by a mathematical expression based on trigonometric functions, and the central part will radially descend in a maximum arc. The point cloud of the light of Crystal Tree is integrated and controlled, and the light points of each Crystal Tree gather to form a light mass. The architectural outline crossing the glass wall and ceiling.The shape of the light mass changes according to people’s behavior. In other words, the light mass
has an ambiguous architectural outline which changes according to the behavior of individuals nearby.
When a space at a certain moment becomes a mass of light with personal meaning, it looks beautiful to others, and the personal is shared with the public. The hollow at the center is a venue for individual celebrations. That being said, it functions as a personal space to be shared over time. If the light block for personal celebrations is perceived as a symbol of the venue, this personal venue also maintains the characteristic of a public space. The personalized space for personal celebrations will gradually spread to cover the entire square. Then, everyone in the square receives the joy and blessings of the celebration.

This Crystal Forest Square , whilst maintaining the characteristics of a public space, can also be full of personal celebrations. If personal celebrations cover the entire square, through the development of the public space being personalized, it will become a symbolic square of new cities in the digital era, where public space and personalized space coexist in the squre.
