As well as providing shelter, a building must also be able to receive guests. With hospitality. To be a good host, you need to combine a number of qualities: attention to your guests; a sense of welcome, for their pleasure; discretion, so as not to impose anything on them or annoy them; elegance, to honour them; comfort, to make them feel at ease; economy, so as not to inconvenience them; and longevity, so that time does not weigh down. And all with the zest to make life more beautiful.
It's not enough to simply place a building on a site: it has to respond to a situation, often repairing it, always improving it. And it must do so in an urban way.
