The HEYTEA pet-friendly theme store originated from the rise of “it economy”. The designer tried to implant a certain amount of humanistic and social care in this commercial space. The project is located in Shenzhen Luohu Xihui City. As a young immigrant city, people are more eager for emotional comfort in a defamiliarized society. Based on this, the designer defines the space as: companion. The “accompaniment” refers to pets and metaphors people.

适度设计 | Moderate design
“Moderate” design means proper design, which can be understood as a grasp of the “degree” of design. In this project, moderation not only refers to the visually visible subtractive design, but also includes the cognitive boundary, a psychological boundary between people and pets. Although it is a space designed for pets, love and pets do not mean borderless intimacy. How to manage the distance between pets and people, so as to protect the pet’s nature and get along well with the crowd? The designer divided the space into two areas, inside and outside. The indoor area is a pet stop area, and the outdoor area is a pet activity area.

In the outdoor pet activity area, a series of furniture and facilities such as pet docking stations, pet poop handling, pet seats, etc. are custom-designed in accordance with the pet’s own living habits and the way humans get along. For example, there are two movable rings next to the bench, which can be used as a leash for pets, and can also be used to place pets, and there are anti-trick or treat cups on the chair surface to place customers’ drinks. In order to guide the behavior of pet lovers.

The functions and scales of the external pendulum space design are all around people and pets, including moving lines, furniture, and materials, taking into account the use of vision. In the venue, the seating form can be flexibly adjusted, and each independent space can be configured into a larger salon space through organic selection and combination to meet the communication needs of groups of different sizes.
In terms of spatial form, the deck space is formed through a stepped layout, which eliminates the height difference between the inside and outside of the site and forms a new functional form at the same time. The height and width of the steps have been reduced to facilitate the use of pets. The main entrance has been treated with corners to form a smooth transition to ensure the indoor temperature and achieve the purpose of saving energy.
Surrounding the LED screen, the space naturally forms a media scene that can be used as an information communication platform to help the audience move from spontaneous social interaction to organizational social interaction.

Explore the relationship between people and pets, pets and space, and gradually transform the design object from the traditional “people-centered” to “people and pets-centered”, forming a people-oriented and pet-centered space system. The design strategy needs to be resolved: the creation link of the two dimensions of “people” and “pets”; the exclusivity and standardization of commercial spaces; the consideration of humanistic value in design aesthetics.

The brand cultural area, with the “cute pet” installation as the link, through thematic and refined creative techniques, becomes a supplement and extension of the delivery of pet-friendly themes to consumers, forming a “check-in point” for the indoor space. The craftsmanship is manual stamping and embroidery, with warm wood grain sound-absorbing board and other materials to form a rich visual effect.

精准设计 | Precision design
The efficient completion of the space is based on the precise formulation of design strategies. As an ascendant chain tea brand, HEYTEA comprehensively considers its development speed, material availability, and later operation and maintenance costs. The designer modularizes the overall space layout, and the furniture design is as compact as possible so as not to occupy too much space. Multi-space concealed design is the main feature.

延伸 | Extend
Using space design strategies to guide people to develop friendly behavior patterns is what UND has always been committed to achieving. Friendly design can not only create higher commercial added value, but also subtly spread a healthier lifestyle, and touch people’s new thinking and cognition. As a test platform, the pet-friendly store uses “cute pets” as a communication medium to build an offline “social space” to increase the stickiness between brands and consumers, enhance the emotional link between people and pets, and help empty nests Groups form new social relations. In the practice of this project, the designer is more concerned about the extension of its humanistic and social care than the design in the sense of functional aesthetics.
