The nature of innovation is to break the pattern and disrupt perceptions. We’re living in the era in which consumers seek for a sense of freshness and novelty to represent their unique characters, which hugely motivates the businesses to make breakthroughs, in a bid to find a special DNA that could be widely recognized by the market. Karv One, once again, joins hands with Yan Ji You book store brand in customizing an artistic exhibition space in WF Central, which is of walking distance from the Palace Museum, the landmark of art and culture in Beijing. This time, Karv One innovatively retains Yan Ji You brand DNA in the design instead of replicating the previous solutions. The whole space is enriched through clever zoning strategy. Immersing in the space, you will not be distracted by any clear borderlines between art and commerce, products and exhibits, or the interior design and its exhibition function. Art is the theme here. It is also the salient part of the exhibition while playing a significant role in connecting people. CBDs, being no less willing to run audacious experiments on the concept of how commerce is run despite of the high cost, have also become popular destinations to explore for the citizens. The starting point of shaping a space is just like the desire to capture the instant change of light and shadow though a camera lens. The space will be used primarily for art exhibition. Therefore, the problem that Karv One ought to address is to create myriads of possible scenes in the area of 1000 square meters for the visitors to capture inspirations and immerse themselves in the infinite extension of time and space.

Prelude/Permanent Urban Style Show
Karv One has always been committed to the idea of seeking out THE right design adapted to each and every single project with the city landscape in mind. The question to ask for this project is how to establish a link between the space, located in an eye-catching stand-alone building at the crossing of WF Central Avenue and the urban streets in order to turn it into a venue of mystery that people are glad to visit. The façade of the building could be the first highlight. The massive glass curtain wall and the indoor space decorated with white acrylic plates look like a huge open scroll. The building is see-through, creating a fascinating atmosphere for imaginations. When night comes, the warm room light brightens up the city street through the see-through window, like a grand invitation to an art feast, creating an urban scenery with day time and night time interwoven with each other. It’s a prelude to the exhibition.
Scenic Design/Enigmatic Scene
Guided by the prelude, visitors embark on a journey of art. Kyle uses the most common wood material to create a diversity of smaller spaces, thus offering many scenic experiences with the scenic design concept in mind. The scale of space becomes obscure and the whole space is made more playful and interesting to visit. The innovative book shelves at the outer ring of the first-floor space serve as the first set. Kyle, with the unique design of interlaced book shelves, reinterpreted the natural light and shadow, which manifest subtle changes as people move in it. This creates such a dreamy and beautiful scenic association.

Wood is the main material used for this project, blending naturally into the space. The color of natural wood, complemented with mono cold and warm light hue, gives a sense of purity to the space. Unified but diversified visual effects are formed through different ceiling designs.Colors of stark contrast are not used. Rather, soft lighting and smooth lines are applied, which, together with the book shelves, create different small corridors for visitors to interact with the space.

The essence of the exhibition lies in the perfect unity of the physical space and its spiritual connotations. The wood color space gives prominence to the artistic contents in the space, including the books, artistic installations, cultural and innovative products, etc. This represents the secondary design by Kyle for the exhibits from the perspective of curation.

Meanwhile, Karv One opens a hole in the mezzanine between the first and the second floor, and constructs wood structure stairs to augment the space experience. The light installation at the center of the space is out of the consideration for both functions and esthetics. It is also the beacon to guide the tour. Up the first floor, visitors arrive at the children’s play area through the warm pink arch door. This gives the visitors a sense of esthetics and rituality. Book area, coffee area, and the children’s play area appear in the same space. The three functional zones are separated and linked together, creating a bustling aggregation space in which synergy is formed among people and also between people and the surrounding environment.

Window side exhibition and coffee area create beautiful atmosphere. Beige window blinds are chosen to create nice shadow effect by playing with the natural light and deliver beautiful atmosphere, making the space more elegant with variations. The subtle rhythms of the shadow and light leave visitors with infinite possibilities of imaginations.
The display of items fit into the space perfectly. Different areas are given different themes to fabricate the experience for visiting the space, ultimately forming an integrated whole world.

Karv One works hand in glove with Yan Ji You in the creation of the exemplar of innovation in the era of culture retail. The curtain never falls for the urban style show and the space for art and culture in the bustling commercial complex. Yan Ji You will take the project as an opportunity to create more scenarios and depict a new portrait of future urban life and consumption experience.
