Who is your favourite architect? Why?
Le Corbusier (1887-1965). Partly because my first architecture teacher likes him very much, I got more exposure to him in the very beginning. I think everyone would agree to the fundamental achievements of Corbusier in architecture and urban planning. Like his contemporaries such as Coco Chanel(1883-1971), Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944?), Corb was a vital force shaping modern life style. Today we are still under his influence. Besides I have read some of his letters which were made public, and I find behind that heroic statue there is also an innocent, cheerful, passionate and faithful soul. That is very precious and encouraging.

What is the major characteristic of your current school’s education?
Relatively speaking, Peking University is quite open and willing to embrace different thoughts and values. You can see that from me because I was majoring in urban planning and economics when I took the internship in MAD. Now I have already graduated. My current job is urban planning.

What have you gained during the MAD internship?
To know MAD is a best reward for me. MAD has a very touching dream. The first time I saw the Hutong Babble and Beijing 2050 I was definitely moved. It has been a year and I still think Ma Design is a vivid existence that actively proposes response to the issues of our time. Besides, it is also a great honor to acquaint so many workmates during my internship. They are so special and they gave me a lot of inspiration in professional skills, aesthetic tastes and life attitudes. I appreciate that very much and I think we will always be good friends.

What are your thoughts and feelings upon Chinese Architecture and the environment? Any suggestion?
Too fast. There is always a tension between efficiency and quality. Nevertheless this might be a process we all have to go through. Just hold on. Good news is architects’ and urban planners’ thinking ability is increasing, and the public aesthetic tastes as well as public supervision power is getting stronger. That’s a good sign for a better tomorrow.

What is your dream?
Enjoy life, never stop exploring. This is a dream which can be realized at every moment.

What would you do if you were not an architect?
Anything I feel good doing, only if it doesn’t stand in my way of enjoying life. Writer, trader, collector, gardener, shopkeeper are all possible. I want to take different jobs at different stages of life.

What is your dream project?
Well, to be honest I seldom imagine a dream project in the air. The moment I begin to untangle a problem is more likely to be the starting point of a dream project. Now I prefer calm and rational solutions, with some poetry added it will be perfect. If a project can be completed in this way, I will be quite satisfied about it.

What is your favourite project in your portfolio? Why?
I put only two works here, and they are my favorite.

1. FASHION PAVILLION

2. PYRAMID FOR THE LIVING
