Appreciation towards Logroño International Festival of Architecture and Design for providing the following description:

Concéntrico is the Logroño International Festival of Architecture and Design, a reflection on the urban environment and the city. This year’s edition, Concéntrico 04, takes place from 27 April to 1 May 2018. The Festival invites you to explore the city through installations, exhibitions, discussions, activities and performances, creating a connection between places, squares, streets, terraces and hidden spaces that usually go unnoticed. The latest edition of the festival brings together installations created by 14 teams of national and international architects and designers, experimenting with new fields of environmental design. This establishes a dialogue between the city, its heritage, and contemporary architecture, enabling citizens to reflect on all these areas.

RINGdeLUXE by Plastique Fantastique

Plastic Fantastique

Plastique Fantastique is a platform for temporary architecture, which samples the performative possibilities of urban environments. Established in Berlin in 1999, Plastique Fantastique has been influenced by the unique circumstances that made the city a laboratory for temporary spaces and has specialized in creating pneumatic installations as alternative, adaptable, low energy spaces for temporary and ephemeral activities.

▼充气环的巨大尺寸让人们对建筑尺寸有了全新的认识,the large size of the ring reminds people of the architectural scale

The transparent, lightweight and mobile shell structures relate to the notion of activating, creating, sharing and transforming public space and involving citizens in creative processes. They are in many ways the simplest of structures – a skin that separates but also connects. Pneumatic architecture is at the same time subversive and adaptable, welcoming fleeting activities and free experiments, breathing new life into the city and making the invisible visible. During the festival RINGdeLUXE embraces the Instituto Estudios Riojanos headquarters – a gorgeous project for a glamorous neighborhood! It is not gold all that glitters – Plastique Fantastique!

▼充气环的安装过程也充满趣味,the installation of the ring is also much fun

La chabola by Jorge Penadés

La chabola is an architectural exercise based on an experimental constructive system made out of tape. In response to the brief: an installation in a public space with 20 standard wooden boards, the objective was to make the minimum intervention possible on the given material.

▼装置的造型与传统庭院空间形成对比,the installation creates a contrast with the traditional courtyard space

Inspired by physiotherapists and how they use kinesiology tape in
human muscles, we studied how this knowledge could be translated and implemented into an architectural context, resulting in a temporary method of connecting different panels together. Interested in this precise point where two very different worlds can overlap, this project propose a strabic approach to architecture; the outcome is an improvised shantyesque space that gets through and overflows the discipline, generating an anarchic vocabulary disconnected from any preexisting reference.

Otravisión by Davide Marchetti con Noumena

“Otravisión” is an intervention that aims to celebrate the plaza by providing passers-by with the opportunity to see the space from an entirely new and unpredicted point of view. Beyond simply providing a new point of view, the tower pavilion recalls notions of Logroño’s history as a fortified city through its form. Openings and decorations in the facade take reference from historic geometries, translating them into a sculptural pattern that modulates the light streaming in, while also letting the visitor look out into the plaza as they are inside.

Lantern by Mjölk

Plaza de Santa Ana is a tricky place surrounded by new buildings and one beautiful stone church wall. There are many pieces of urban equipment such as benches, children playgrounds, trash cans and lamps. All this makes it difficult to intervene with some object that would fit in the environment. We chose the lamps (or rather lanterns because those are bit historical looking) as the most interesting piece to use for the installation.

During twilight when the lamps start to shine, atmosphere of the plaza will change. Darkness hides the details and people passing the plaza change to silhouettes, colours will dim. That is the moment when our installation starts to work. It surrounds one of the lamps and creates unique meeting space. The installation is very subtle it winds up around the lantern as a spider web casting weird shadows. There are myriads of lamps around the world and there are many lamps in city Logroño there are plenty Lamps on Plaza de Santa Ana exactly it is six, but it gives us sense to make one of them special.

Reflection by Collectif Parenthèse

The history of the cloister is reflected in an accumulation of various architectural styles. We propose to magnify the architecture of the Santa Maria de Palacio church by displaying each detail of the construction through a set of reflective elements to be inserted into the frames of the stained glass windows of the courtyard. Cornices, mouldings, coatings, columns, openings, the sky, and nature, offer up to visitors an architectural kaleidoscope that produces infinite combinations of fragments, depending on location and the light of the sun.

La Plaza by Lucas Seré Paltzer and Sebastián Andrés Podestá

In Plaza de San Bartolomé, a simple intervention brings together the existing space and calls for contemplation, reflection. Removing the benches from the square, we offer two resting points at either end, two concrete blocks connected by a mirror of water. A set of element that proposes we exist, observe, connect with the visible and with each other.

The situation suggests but does not direct – each approach will take you to different places; to the dissolution of boundaries; to canals, the past and the origin; to the preservation of historic urban heritage; to human connections. By getting our feet wet we integrate with one another, we are equal: all footprints dry on the stone floor.

Glimpse by Fernando Cruzado, Julia Díaz, Francisco Javier Fernández, Ane Villaverde

Strolling through the countryside of La Rioja gives us an awareness of the territory and time and again reminds of the place in which we find ourselves. The possibility of looking to the horizon across its rolling plains, meeting the sierra in the distance, gives walkers the pleasure of looking at a long and broad landscape. Viña Lanciano, located at a bend in the River Ebro, offers us the opportunity to explore this idea of the consciousness of the territory. We wanted to elevate ourselves in this terrain, create a landmark that will be visible well beyond the borders of La Rioja. The call of a place, a “there’s something there” – that’s what we look at, we notice, and is part of what we call the landscape.

▼装置放置在广袤的乡村,人们能够意识到大地与时间;the installation is place in the broad country side, reminding people of the territory and the time

▼从葡萄园望向装置,looking at the installation from the vineyards

A web of red lines mark a vertical thickness, crowned by an ambiguous cloud, which, just like the mass of trees along the river, sways with the wind. The landscape of La Rioja is not only territory. It is also textures and rhythms. The lines marked by the vineyards surround us, creating a verdant wall on both sides of the road, or generating a series of rows that we can walk through, go at a leisurely pace perceiving what lies behind.
